Referred to as "Soho on the Hudson" by New York
magazine, Nyack is a paradise for discerning shoppers.
The village is jammed with antique stores, galleries,
craft shops, and what are referred to in the trade as
"destination" stores -- those businesses that are so
unique that knowledgeable shoppers will travel great
distances to seek them out.
To name some of the many kinds of specialty shops:
Vintage clothing, depression
glass, country French and English antique furniture,
vintage watches, used and rare books, New Age books,
natural fiber clothing, pottery, African gifts, flowers,
Mexican home furnishings, fabric, hand-crafted jewelry,
quilts, natural foods, leather, coffee and tea,
crystals, figurines and collector plates, fine
chocolate, clocks, silk and cotton lingerie, drums,
dolls, spiritual paraphernalia, Native American jewelry and crafts, performing arts
related gifts, and many antique stores.
Remember, these are all different stores, not different parts of
stores, and this is only a partial list. It's really quite amazing.
